September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month & Blood Cancer Awareness Month
Genetic testing is an essential part of early detection and care of Ovarian Cancer and the management of Blood Cancers. The general population lifetime risk for ovarian cancer is 1-2%, and 5-10% of ovarian cancer is due to a hereditary predisposition.
Genetics Center performs tests for the most well-known genes linked to hereditary ovarian cancer such as BRCA1 & BRCA2 as well as a comprehensive Ovarian Panel. In cases of suspected leukemia, we also perform cytogenetic karyotyping and Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization. Additionally, we perform DNA analysis on JAK2 and TPMT related to blood cancers.
